Digital Radiology (X-Ray)

At Slade Veterinary Hospital, our radiology equipment utilizes a Fuji digital radiography system, which produces high-quality diagnostic images for an accurate diagnosis. The advantages of our system include rapid turnaround time (within seconds!) and decreased radiation exposure for staff and patients. X-rays are commonly used to evaluate the chest and skeletal bones.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound relies on specially generated sound waves to create an “echo”, or black-and-white images of the chest, heart, or abdominal organs. Unlike an X-ray, the ultrasound is a dynamic tool, allowing us to assess structures in real-time. Ultrasounds are entirely safe, as there is no risk of radiation exposure. Ultrasounds are commonly used to evaluate the heart, as well as major abdominal organs such as the liver, spleen, intestines, and bladder. Ultrasounds are also important for confirming pregnancy, fetal viability, and gestational aging.

For both diagnostic imaging modalities, sedation is sometimes required, but this is tailored to your pet’s needs. All images can be sent to you or a specialist via email and are always accessible in your patient’s medical records.
